The project EVA4ADAM will develop and implement an integrated mechanical analysis with artificial intelligence system, with the aim of enhancing the evaluation of viscoelastic properties of materials, focusing on the strategic areas indicated by ECOSISTER. The main objective is to provide innovative solutions to support the ecological transition, reducing the environmental impact throughout the entire life cycle of materials and components.

In specific, the project includes the integration of the analytical device based on a non-invasive mechanical technique, already developed by Vesevo, with a software framework based on machine learning algorithms for image recognition. This synergy will create a system that enables the real-time analysis of products in an automated manner, significantly increasing the throughput of the device and facilitating its industrial deployability. The integrated system will enable the analysis of material properties under real usage conditions, providing the key indications for optimising the life cycle of products and reducing production waste, helping to minimise environmental impact. The artificial intelligence algorithm will be crucial in identifying the optimal areas of products where to perform the analysis, providing a set of explorable coordinates to the device’s actuator system.

The proposed integration will facilitate the improvement and standardisation of viscoelastic property measurements of polymeric materials and rubbers, reducing data leakage and boundary effects occurring where the VESevo measuring head does not work in optimal areas of the test article. This innovative approach paves the way for advanced materials development solutions, aligning with the goals of the ECOSISTER programme. The collaboration between mechanical analysis and artificial intelligence will not only enable advances in measurement accuracy, but also facilitate the creation of more sustainable materials suitable for the key sectors identified by ECOSISTER.
