Renewable Energy Communities on Edge
The ReConEdge project aims to provide a demonstration of the opportunities provided by the TeleSMEG platform by exploiting artificial intelligence (AI) at the edge (thanks to Multiaccess Edge Computing) and IoT data sources from Renewable Energy Communities (RECs) by analysing and using the technology components from telecommunication operators. These technologies provide more efficient, secure and environmentally friendly communication and computing models through distributed technologies and optimised energy use. One of the goals of RECs is to reduce dependence on fossil fuels by making optimal use of available renewable energy sources. However, the overproduction of such renewable energy can create balancing problems for smart-grid operators. The ReConEdge project intends to make optimal use of this energy by enabling the energy balance principle. The project aims to implement a pilot that uses energy storage systems with controllers to manage charging based on unused energy. In conjunction, an IoT platform is proposed to monitor energy production and consumption, processing the data with AI algorithms to optimise the use of renewable energy sources.
