Intelligent Biological and Environmental Monitoring Systems
Goals:
The overall objective of the 18-month SIMBA project is to build data collection and analysis platforms in the domain of aquatic monitoring for four specific applications:
D1) Real-time monitoring of an underwater site. Creation of a highly efficient and automated underwater monitoring system equipped with AI framework for analyzing data collected from a heterogeneous sensor system.
D2) Measurement of toxicological endpoints by behavioral analysis of organisms. Development of a portable system for automatic evaluation of the responses of some aquatic microorganisms used in ecotoxicological kits.
D3) Morphological and behavioral analysis of organisms. Implementation of an underwater imaging system for continuous monitoring of a colony of marine organisms (balans) used as a natural biosensor.
D4) Study of river beds. Use of AI systems for automatic extraction of data needed for the study of river beds from multispectral satellite images, and predictive models for their evolution.
Spindox is involved in three of the four applications, specifically Spindox develops:
D1) Time series analysis algorithms to detect phytoplankton bloom and predictive algorithms aimed at anticipating the phenomenon.
D3) Image recognition algorithms to identify the mouth opening and eversion frequency of the flagellum of baleen whales under different environmental conditions.
Q4) A software module to extract topological and vector properties of river beds, such as flow direction and amplitude, from segmented images.
